Description
Fast track up the political ladder, fast cars, fast women—that's Garrett McKettrick. Make that was. A scandal has brought him home to Blue River, Texas, a place where a man can slow down, take stock and plan his next move. Which doesn't include staying at the family ranch with his brothers. A city boy, Garrett doesn't think he has the land in his blood.
But Blue River has other attractions, like his former high school nemesis, Julie Remington. Now a striking woman, Julie comes complete with a four-year-old cowboy, a three-legged beagle and deep ties to the community. Good thing they have nothing in common…except their undeniable attraction and a future brighter than the Texas sun.

Summary: "Predictable Romance Story"
The beginning of this book showed great promise. Not many romance books about cowboys start out with the main character being deep into politics and scandals with future aspirations to become higher up on the political totem pole, rather than be back home working the family ranch. Later in the story it began to become predictable. A single mom with a young son resists the hero who gives her his best charms. While the book leads you to believe that it's all about Garrett, it is really more about the woman. The relationship was typical for a harlequin type romance. It was a fast read, but I found it somewhat hard to finish.

Summary: "weak woman-annoying!"
As the middle book in the series, this story seems to almost be a light filler for the first and last. Julie is regularly getting weepy about just about anything. Garrett, of course, is there to put an arm around her to help her have the strength she needs to get by. Wonder how she made it before he came along. She gets panicky when her five year old throws up, and doesn't think to ever get him a bucket. Also, too much time is spent explaining all the safe things she does as she drives, but then she talks on her cell phone! Garrett's character has little depth. He spends too much time grinning and chuckling at Julie's "moods," although all the brothers seem to do that. I loaned this book to my sister before I read it, and she hated it. Austin was a better book.

Summary: "Very Good Read"
I am a big fan of Linda Lael Miller's books. This is the second book of a trilogy. I enjoyed the first book as well as the second and am looking forward to the third.

Summary: "Mckettricks of Texas: Garrett"
I had a wonderful time savoring this story.
Garrett was an interesting hero, though he was a bit naive thinking the best of people he admired and not seeing their foibles. However, none of us are omnipotent and he has a good heart. It was enlightening to see how his eyes were opened and how he responded to the different situations one they were.
Our heroine Julie although she was attracted to Garrett was deliberate in her choice in pursuing a relationship with him. She is thinking of two things: She has a child to consider and he probably will be moving on. Is it enough to just live in the moment?
The story was just the right mix of family interactions, romance and a little bit of danger and intrigue.
